Mobile Integrated Crisis Response (MICR) is a partnership between Surrey Police Service (SPS) and  Fraser Health . A uniformed SPS police officer and a clinical nurse specializing in mental health work together and respond to calls that involve emotional and mental health issues.

The MICR team drives an unmarked police vehicle to enhance the privacy of the individuals and families they serve.

The MICR team serves residents of Surrey, and the Semiahmoo First Nation.

Operating from 10:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m., 7 days a week.

What services does MICR provide?

Mobile Integrated Crisis Response provides on-site mental health and emotional wellness assessments, crisis intervention, and connections to appropriate community supports including mental health services, addiction treatment programs, and counselling resources. The MICR team can facilitate hospital admissions when required and takes the lead on calls involving complex mental health issues, ensuring individuals in crisis receive specialized support while allowing Frontline officers to focus on other policing responsibilities.

What is the referral process?

If someone is experiencing a mental health crisis, they should call the SPS non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 or 9-1-1 if there is an immediate threat to safety. Frontline officers are the first responders to these calls and will assess the situation. When appropriate and available, officers may involve the Mobile Integrated Crisis Response (MICR) team to provide specialized mental health support. If MICR is not on duty, Frontline officers will manage the immediate response and may refer the individual for follow-up by MICR at a later time.
