One Man in Custody After Stabbing in Newton Neighbourhood
One man is in custody and a victim is being treated for serious wounds to their arm after a stabbing this morning near 73rd Avenue and 130th Street in the Newton neighbourhood of Surrey.
Shortly before 10:00 am this morning, Surrey Police Service (SPS) was called by a victim who was stabbed multiple times in the arm. SPS officers were on scene within minutes and able to apply medical intervention to the victim while waiting for medical assistance.
Other SPS officers, with the assistance of the Integrated Police Dog Services (IPDS), were able to locate a suspect male and arrest them without incident. During the search for the suspect, a nearby school, Princess Margaret Secondary, was placed in a temporary “hold and secure”, which has since been lifted.
The suspect remains in custody pending further investigation. The victim is currently being treated in hospital for his injuries.
There is currently a road closure on 130th Street between 73rd and 74th Avenues while police investigate. Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have dash or surveillance camera footage to please contact Surrey Police Service at 604-599-0502.
UPDATE: The road closure of 130th Street between 73rd and 74th Avenues has been lifted.
