Police in Surrey are investigating a late afternoon collision between two vehicles that has resulted in the closure of the intersection of 96 Avenue and 161A Street, Surrey.

Shortly after 4 pm RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit (SPOSU) officers responded to reports of a two-vehicle collision in the intersection of 96 Avenue and 161A Street, Surrey.

SPOSU officers, along with Surrey Fire Service (SFS), attended to find one vehicle on its roof and on fire and all occupants of both vehicles had safely gotten out. SFS firefighters quickly extinguished the fire.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation; however, at this early stage, it is believed that the speed of at least one of the vehicles may have been a contributing factor.

Motorists are advised to find alternate routes, as the intersection of 96 Avenue and 161A Street is going to be closed while police investigate, and crews clean up the collision.

Anyone with information, including dash cam or CCTV footage, is asked to call the Surrey Police Service’s non-emergency number at 604-599-0502 and quote file 25-25642 (SU) or, if you choose to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at www.solvecrime.ca or 1-800-222-8477.
