SPS Charges 25 Drivers for Excessive Speeding in Four Days
Excessive speeding continues to be a concerning trend in Surrey, and Surrey Police Service’s Road Safety Section (RSS) has zero tolerance for dangerous driving behaviours. Travelling at high speeds that vastly exceed the posted speed limit have no place in our community and drivers, who make the choice to put the community at risk, will be held accountable for their driving behaviour.
Between March 6 to 9, 2026, SPS’ Traffic Enforcement Officers charged 25 drivers for excessive speeding and their vehicles were impounded.
Here are some of the statistics and speeds that were observed:
- 183 km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone – this vehicle also did not have insurance.
- 139 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone – this driver did not have a driver’s licence.
- 165 km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone.
- 114 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone – this was a Class 7N driver.
- 128 km/hr & 129 km/hr in an 80km/hr zone – both drivers were Class 7N.
- 127 km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone – Class 7N driver.
- 129 km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone – Class 7N driver.
- 4 vehicles were travelling more than double the posted speed limit when stopped by police.
- 12 vehicles were travelling faster than the highest legal speed in BC (120 km/hr is the fastest legal speed in BC and in Canada and is found on the Coquihalla Highway).
