SPS Investigating Shooting at a Residence

Surrey Police Service (SPS) is investigating an early morning shooting at a residence in the Newton neighbourhood.
On May 20, 2026, at approximately 4:40 am, SPS Frontline officers responded to reports of a shooting near 57 Avenue and 148 Street in Surrey. Upon arrival, police noted damage to a residence and evidence of shots fired. The residence was occupied at the time of the shooting and fortunately no one was injured.
The investigation is in its early stages; however, it is believed to be extortion related.
SPS’s Extortion Response Team (ExRT) has taken over the lead on the investigation, and the Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS) will be in the area processing physical and digital evidence.
