Update - Body Discovered After Fire Deemed Non-Suspicious
File #2025-1244 (SP)
Following a thorough investigation, police have concluded that the death of a man found deceased after a fire in an abandoned house in early January is not suspicious (see Jan. 5, 2025 news release and Jan 6 news release).
Over the last two months, Surrey Police Service (SPS) officers and our Frontline Investigative Support Team (FLIST) have conducted extensive investigation into the structure fire in the 9800 block of 138th Street in Surrey and the location of a deceased individual inside. In addition, the work of Surrey Fire Service, RCMP Arson investigators and the Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS) was integral in support of this investigation. The culmination of all these efforts was the determination that the tragic death of this man did not involve foul play. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was initially deployed, however, SPS resumed conduct of the investigation, and the police investigation is now concluded.
Surrey Police Service extends condolences to the friends and family of the deceased man.
